How Home Rule Impacts Residents

Home Rule can help Lancaster stay strong well into the future.

Voting Yes on Home Rule

With Home Rule, the City can make a modest one-time adjustment to the Earned Income Tax, which could fund City services for decades to come without additional tax increases.

Voting YES on Home Rule means:

  • Keeping Property Taxes from increasing, helping seniors, renters, and fixed-income families stay in their homes.
  • Sustaining current levels of police and fire protection, keeping our community safe.
  • Maintaining our streets, parks, and other services we all rely on.
  • Creating a more fair way to fund services without regular tax rate increases.

Voting No on Home Rule

Without Home Rule, the City will need to raise Property Taxes 45% over the next decade just to maintain current levels of service.

Voting NO on Home Rule means:

  • Continued Property Tax hikes, increasing housing costs for everyone, especially retirees, renters, and lower-income households.
  • Difficult decisions between raising Property Taxes or cutting essential services like police and fire protection.
  • Less maintenance on our streets, parks, and other quality of life services we all enjoy.
